An underground plus multilevel truck parking facility will be constructed here, provided the corporation receives the land from the railway

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has announced that the truck-stand located in the capital's Tejgaon area would be upgraded to a multipurpose facility.

He made the remarks during a visit to the Tejgaon truck-stand on Wednesday.

The Mayor also said, "In order to reach a  permanent solution to the problem, I will speak to the Bangladesh Railway, requesting them to hand over the land (where the Tejgaon truck-stand is located) to the City Corporation''

''We will then set up a multipurpose truck-stand here so that more trucks can be parked together."

"Around 5,000 trucks ply the stand daily. Additionally, 2,000 trucks are camped here at night, so are the truckers themselves. The railway has 21 bighas of land here. An underground plus multilevel truck parking facility will be constructed here if the corporation receives this land from the railway. Everyone must work to bring discipline here," the mayor said.

Mayor Atiq added, "The late DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq saved the road from Sat Rasta intersection to Tejgaon rail-crossing from encroachment after 40 long years. Tejgaon roads occasionally turn into truck-stands again. We often witness a 'hide-and-seek' game between law enforcement and truckers. Therefore, a permanent solution is needed to end this impasse with truck parking in the industrial area."

The mayor added, "Our eviction drive against encroachers will continue. I will not allow anyone to grab the land of the city corporation. "
