Muhammad Jahangir passes away

Esteemed Bangladeshi journalist and media personality Muhammad Jahangir has died on Tuesday night.

He breathed his last at 12:40am at Asgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka.

He was the executive director of a non-government organisation - Centre for Development Communication and the editor of monthly BINODAN, a specialised news magazine for the adolescent.

“My father Muhammad Jahangir is no more. Please keep him in your prayers,” his son Apurba Jahangir posted on his Facebook wall. 

“He had been suffering from cancer for a long,” said Tanbirul Islam, the assistant general manager of Yunus Centre.

“He was admitted to the hospital on Monday and was put on life support,” he further added. 

An alumnus of the University of Dhaka, Muhammad Jahangir is the author and editor of 25 books which are mostly on media and journalism.

He furthered his career by joining two universities in Dhaka as faculty of Media Studies and Journalism.

He was also closely connected with many TV channels of Bangladesh as a planner and programme presenter of talk shows regarding politics and current national and international issues.

Muhammad Jahangir is the younger brother of Nobel Laureate professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Along with being an executive committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and Bangladesh chapter, he also served as a member of the Theater Drama group, and coordinated Nrityanchal Dance Company. 

He was the host of the first live television talk show ‘Abhimat’ which aired on Bangladesh Television and went off the air in 1998.

Born in Chittagong, the acclaimed media personality passed away at the age of 68.
