Move to import more dengue detection kits

The government has taken up initiatives to import sufficient dengue detection kits in order to deal with the increasing cases of dengue infections across the country.

There is a stock of 4,35,000 dengue detection kits in the market at the moment, as stated by drug administration department sources.

According to Drug Administration Director Ruhul Amin, a total of 368,000 kits had been imported until Saturday (August 3, 2017).

From now on, 68,000 kits will be imported per day, he said, adding that the government has issued no objection certificate (NOC) for the import of 1,61,00,000 dengue detection kits.

Rulhul Amin made these revelations while addressing a press briefing arranged by the health administration directorate in the city on Sunday.

While speaking on the occasion, Sania Tahmina, director, disease control department of health directorate, said hospitals would use government allotted fund for buying the kits.

The public hospitals and healthcare centres will test dengue for free of cost while the private ones will conduct the test charging fees as determined by the government, she added.  

The government initiative has been made against the backdrop that the country this year has witnessed a record number of dengue cases in history and the number is rising every day, and that different hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres have been facing a short supply of the kit that is needed to detect the fever.
