The first batch of the "most advanced kits" to detect the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 donated by China has arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
"Around 10 lakh hand sanitizers, 5 lakh masks, 1.5 lakh caps and a good number of shoe covers and gowns have arrived from China," Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said in a press briefing, reports Somoy TV.
The kits arrived on a flight of China Airlines at around 3:30pm today, said Hualong Yan, deputy chief of Mission and Minister (Counsellor) of Chinese Embassy.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said, "China never forgets to lend a helping hand even at its most difficult times."
He said the embassy ordered 500 test kits from Beijing Genomics Institute to enhance Bangladesh's capacity to detect coronavirus. More such kits will be provided if any case is confirmed in Bangladesh, he added.
