Missing girl found dead in Rangpur’s pond

Family members alleged that Maisha was killed after physical torture and dumped into the pond at night.

Police on Tuesday morning recovered the body of an eight-year-old girl from a pond of Sarkarpara area in Rangpur after one day of her going missing.

The deceased is Maisha Akhter, 8, daughter of Monwar Hossain of the area.

"Acting on information, police recovered the body of the child who went missing on Monday noon. Later, the body was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy," said Shahidullah Kawsar, additional deputy commissioner (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police.

Family members alleged that Maisha was killed after physical torture and dumped into the pond at night.

The mystery behind the death would be clear after the autopsy report, police said.  

Deceased's uncle Anwar Hossain said that Maisha went missing on Monday noon. Relatives searched everywhere and also launched miking in the locality till night but could not find her.

Later, they found her in the pond near their residence in the morning around 10 am and informed the police.

Necessary measures would be taken after investigation, the official added.
