“I had sent a letter to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives to take legal action against the ward councilor for involvement in illegal activities"

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon has said that despite his letter to the ministry concerned over the issue, no action was taken against the ward councillor who was reportedly involved in the illegal casino business.

"I had sent a letter to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives to take legal action against the ward councilor for involvement in illegal activities. But no action was taken then," said the mayor while replying to a question from journalists at Nagar Bhaban.

The mayor was briefing journalists on Monday after a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen at Nagar Bhaban.

At the press briefing Mayor Sayeed also said, "During the last Ramadan, I urged everyone to close the casinos during the holy month, but nobody paid heed to my plea then. However, action will be taken now."

Sayeed Khokon also praised the prime minister's directives against illegal casino businesses in the country, saying that people across the country appreciate it.
