Rainfall all over the country in May was 25 per cent below usual, spelling trouble for agriculture.

However, monsoon that began today will bear normal rain in this month.

During July and August, the country is expected to see normal rainfall like that during the last monsoon. One or two monsoon depressions may form this season.

Under the impact of seasonal winds, intermittent rainfall may be experienced all over the country after June 19, said meteorologist Dr Md Abul Kalam Mallik.
Speaking to The Business Standard, he said: “the spells of rainfall may lengthen.”

Dr Kalam said due to change in weather patterns, heavy and very heavy rainfalls have decreased but the light rainfalls have increased.

Besides, the number of low pressures and depressions in the Bay of Bengal has reduced, he observed.

Met office forecasted rainfall in Sylhet division will be highest in June, as the region will experience normal rainfall of 634mm.

In July, normal rainfall in Chattogram division will be 720mm. This will be the highest rainfall in the country during the month.

In August, the normal rainfall in Chattogram will be higher than any other divisions.
