Massive fire at a Chattogram port shed

A massive fire broke out in a shed at Chattogram Port earlier on Wednesday late evening.
Secretary of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Md Omar Faruk confirmed the matter to The Business Standard that the fire broke out at around 4:15 pm at Shed No 3 of Jetty No 2 of the port.
The fire has been brought under control 1 hour and 10 minutes after the fire, at 5:25 pm. Fire service personnel had been working at the spot to assess the damage till 7.15 pm.
"Upon receiving the news of the blaze, 14 vehicles of four units of the fire service were working to control the fire," said Azizul Islam, Chattogram division head of Fire Service and Civil Defense.
An employee of Chattogram port said that the shed had been undergoing repair work.
Md Omar Faruk said a five-member investigation committee has been formed headed by Zafar Alam, a member (Administration and Planning) of CPA.
The committee will determine the cause of the fire and report within the next 7 days.

According to sources in the office of the terminal manager of Chattogram port, there were various products including chemicals, chips, old clothes and cigarettes for auction in shed number 3.
However, the amount of goods burnt has yet to be determined.
