Maritime ports asked to hoist signal-2

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has asked the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox,s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist distant warning signal number-2.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea. Those who are already in the North Bay and deep sea are advised to take shelter and remain in shelter till further notice, the BMD said in a bulletin today afternoon.

The bulletin also stated the cyclonic storm Yaas remained practically stationary over the East Central Bay and adjoining area.

At 12pm, the storm was centred about 675 kms South-Southwest of Chattogram port, 605 kms South-Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 650 kms south of Mongla port and 605kms south of Payra port.

However, the cyclone is likely to intensify further, move in a North-Northwesterly direction and may reach North West Bay off North Odisha-West Bengal-Khulna coast by 26 May early morning.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 54kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kms/h, rising to 88kms/h in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.
