Man lynched for rape attempt in Chuadanga

An angry mob beat Akbar to death when he tried to flee the scene after attacking Hasan.

A man was beaten to death by an angry mob when he killed another man who tried to resist a rape attempt in Amirpur village of Chuadanga Sadar upazila early Saturday.    

Akbar Ali, 40, a resident of Modna village of Damurhuda upazila, stabbed Hasan Ali as the latter resisted him from attempting to rape an eighth grader in her room.

The girl is Hasan’s niece.

Twenty-five-year-old Hasan was the son of Hamidur Rahman.

According to police and local sources, Akbar entered Hamidur’s house around 3am and tried to rape his granddaughter.   

Family members rushed to her room after hearing her scream and Akbar stabbed Hamidur, Hasan and the girl indiscriminately, leaving the three injured.   

Villagers caught Akbar when he tried to flee the scene and beat him up, leaving him dead on the spot.  

The three injured were rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Hasan dead. Hamidur was transferred to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital in critical condition.

The girl is being treated in Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.   

Officer-in-Charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Abu Jihad Khan said legal actions were being taken in this connection.
