Man held with gold, huge silver at Dhaka airport
Previously, the custom preventive team seized 1.3kg gold from him
The Airport Armed Police Battalion today detained a man with 800gm gold and 55kg silver at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The detainee Nazrul Islam, 36, is the son of Tajul Islam, hailing from Savar.
Airport Armed Police Additional Police Super (Operations and Media) Md Alamgir Hossain has confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
According to the source, Nazrul landed at the airport on a Turkish Airlines flight from Italy around 6am. On information, police detained him from outside of the canopy-2 area at around 7am.
Police found six bars of gold amounting to 800gm of gold and 55kg silver after searching his bag. The market value of the seized gold and silver is estimated to be around Tk40 lakh.
Nazrul said his Italian expatriate brother Salman Mukul is the investor of this shipment. Previously, the custom preventive team seized 1.3 kg gold from him, he said in questioning.
A case is being filed against him under the Special Powers Act at the Airport Police Station
