A man was killed and another injured after a fire broke out in an oil laden ship at Mongla sea port in Bagerhat on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Lal Mia, 52, who was operating the engine of the barge ship.
Fakar Uddin, harbor master of Mongla Port Authority, said the fire occurred around 1:45 pm on the "OTC Link" ship that was anchored in the jetty of Meghna depot.
A unit of Mongla Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and controlled the fire after shifting it to a safe place, he said.
Engine operator and another ship worker sustained severe burn injuries during the fire, Fakar Uddin said, adding that engine operator Lal Mia succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Injured Yasin was sent to the burn unit of Khulna Medical College and Hospital. The fire caused minor damages to the ship of Meghna Petroleum Corporation, Fakar Uddin stated.
