Man detained for killing minor wife
The family of the deceased is reportedly preparing to file a murder case against Alamgir and his family with Pekua Police Station
Police have detained a man for allegedly torturing his underage wife to death at Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar.
The detainee Alamgir is locally known as a robber and accused in many cases. Rest of the accused in the incident are on the run.
The 14-year-old victim, Salma Begum's family claimed that her husband and in-laws persecuted her in a medieval manner for dowry.
According to locals, Alamgir forcefully married Salma three months ago without a proper muslim marriage registration (Kabinnama).
On September 20, Alamgir, his brother Jahangir and their father Zafar Alam secretly took Salma to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex for treatment when she fell unconscious after being brutally thrashed all day long.
Later, she was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) as her condition deteriorated and died there on September 23.
Police have sent her body to CMCH morgue for autopsy.
