An eviction drive by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Pallabi area in Mirpur triggered a clash involving police and local shop owners and residents on Thursday morning.

The DNCC officials, led by the executive magistrate, started the eviction drive there around 10 am.

However, the locals attempted to prevent the drive when officials started demolishing an illegal installation at A Block in Mirpur 12.

DNCC officials and the police retreated when the locals started throwing brickbats.

Later DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam visited the spot and eased the situation.

A large number of police were brought in the morning before conducting the operation.

The DNCC officials said that the eviction drive will not be stopped under any circumstances.
