Local arms recovered from two dormitories of Chattogram University

Chattogram University administration with the help of police seized local sharp weapons from Suhrawardy Hall and Shah Amanat Hall of the university during a raid there early Thursday.

The raid was conducted following a clash between two factions of the university branch Chhatra League on Wednesday.

Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, proctor of the university, said, "A clash ensued between two groups of Chhatra League over a trivial incident. We brought the situation under control with the help of police. Considering the safety issue of the students, we conducted the raid at the two halls. We recovered various types of local weapons, including ramda, kirich, glass bottles and rods from the two halls."

However, none was arrested in this connection. 

According to the university administration, Rupak, leader of Vijay Group, went to Shaheed Abdur Rab Hall for having a snack on Wednesday evening. Then the activists of CFC group chased him. 

Following the incident, Vijay group and CFC group took position at the Suhrawardy Hall and the Shah Amanat Hall respectively. 

At that time both the factions staged showdown with local weapons and threw brickbats and glass bottles at each other. Five people, including a member of the university's proctorial body, were injured.

Leaders and activists of the both factions are known as followers of Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.
