He died in Chattogram’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Saturday evening

Major (Retd) Shawkat Ali (Bir Pratik), sub-sector commander of Sector No-1 during the Liberation War, has died.

"He died in Chattogram's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Saturday evening," His son Imran Morshed Ali confirmed.

He had been suffering from heart disease for a long time and had undergone open-heart surgery a year ago.

Shawkat Ali, 68, left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

Although Major Shawkat Ali's village is in Naogaon but he will be buried at the premises of Garibullah Shah Mazar in Chattogram on Sunday afternoon.

Shawkat Ali obtained his master's degree from Dhaka University and later joined the Bangladesh Army.

He was a former cricketer and played in the Chattogram First Division Cricket League.
