Imam Abu Zafar, Investigating Officer of the case said, “Others arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident have been acquitted as they were found to have no connection.”

Police have submitted a charge sheet against Rabiul Islam, the lone accused of the attack on Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ghoraghat of Dinajpur, Wahida Khanam, and her father.

Imam Abu Zafar, Officer-in-Charge of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur Police and Investigating Officer of the case filed the charge sheet in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Dinajpur on Saturday.

Imam Abu Zafar said that a thorough investigation had confirmed that Rabiul planned the incident and acted alone.

"Others arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident have been acquitted as no evidence of their connection has been found," he said.

A senior police official said 53 people have been named as witnesses in the charge sheet, five among whom have already given confessional statements in court.

The charge sheet says that Rabiul had planned the attack for a number of reasons, including the imposition of a fine for stealing money from the UNO's purse, a departmental lawsuit for unprofessionalism and subsequent dismissal.

On September 3, UNO Wahida and her father were brutally attacked inside their government quarters. When both fainted after severe blood loss, the attacker presumed them dead and fled the scene.

Later that same night, Wahida's elder brother Sheikh Farid Uddin filed a case over the incident against four to five unidentified individuals at Ghoraghat Police Station.
