Police force to get an Air Wing  

Two helicopters are being added to the police force to make the force more dynamic.

Police headquarters disclosed this in a press release on Wednesday.

As a result, the police will play a vital role in curbing militant and criminal activity as well as increasing surveillance capacities in remote areas, it added.

Bangladesh Police and JSC Russian Helicopters signed an agreement for buying the helicopters in Shapla Conference Room of Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

Dr Benzir Ahmed, inspector general of Bangladesh Police, and Director General of JSC Russian Helicopters A I Boginsky signed the agreement through a video conference.

Dr Benzir Ahmed said, "The dream of the Air Wing of the police force is being implemented through buying helicopters. Using helicopters, the police will be able to conduct emergency operations and provide food as well as medicine to remote areas."

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was present at the event as the chief guest.

Mostafa Kamal Uddin, senior secretary of Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was present as the special guest. High-level officials of the ministry and the Russian embassy were also present at the program.

The home minister said, "The Russian government has been assisting in increasing the capacity of our law enforcement agencies as well as the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, and reforming an old power plant. These initiatives will help make Bangladesh more secure."
