First Bangladeshi lawyer receives 'Pro Bono Award'

Ishrat Hasan, a lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court, became the first Bangladeshi to receive the International Pro Bono Award-2020 for her work in the public interest.

She won the award, beating six competitors from England, India, Pakistan, and Ecuador. Ishrat had been nominated in the category as the first lawyer from Bangladesh.

According to the International Bar Association (IBA), Ishrat Hassan has made a profound and unique positive impact in his country through her pro bono activities. 

Among Ishrat Hasan's actions are the establishment of breastfeeding rooms in public places in Bangladesh and the ban on revealing the gender identity of the fetus 

She has also played a special role in women's empowerment in Bangladesh.

The award was presented by the International Bar Association. The winner was announced by the association on Monday at 8 pm.

The IBA is an international organisation of lawyers from around the world. Under the organisation, the association has more than 80,000 legal practitioners from 190 different bar associations.
