Launch operation resumes

Long-haul passenger launch operations have resumed on Thursday.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has allowed passenger vessels to operate while maintaining health safety measures.

However, single-engine boats are not allowed.

The BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Business Standard.

Earlier on Tuesday, the BIWTA suspended all passenger vessel traffic on river routes to curb damage from the cyclone Yaas.

The government had suspended the launch operations along with other long-haul transport services to curb the spike in coronavirus infections from 5 April.
