Detectives arrested the prime accused of the grisly murder of Shahidunnabi Jewel in a mob lynching on allegation for hurting religious sentiment in Burimari of Lalmonirhat's Patgram upazila.

The arrestee - Abul Hossain alias Hossain Ali, the main rumour monger of the incident, was detained from the capital on Saturday morning.

Detective Branch of Mirpur Division Assistant Commissioner Tosiur Rahman Babu said that Abul Hossain was arrested from Kuril Biswa road area in the capital.

Later, he was handed over to Lalmonirhat police.

Abul Hossain is the No.1 accused in a case filed over Lalmonirhat incident, he added.

Three cases were filed over the murder.

Shahidunnabi Jewel, a former employee of Rangpur Cantonment Public School, was beaten and burned to death by locals in Lalmonirhat on 29 October for alleged contempt of holy Quran inside a mosque.
