Workers of state-owned jute mills in Khulna on Monday brought out a protest march to press home their 11-point charter of demands, including the implementation of the national wage commission.

The state-owned Jute Mill CBA-Non-CBA Sangram Parishad orgainised the agitation programme.

CBA president of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill Shahana Sharmin, CBA leader Humayun Kabir Khan, among others, spoke during the demonstration.

Their demands include the payment of arrears, the cancellation of public private partnership, the payment of provident fund and gratuity to retired workers and employees, regular payment of weekly wages and the allotment for buying jute in during every season.

On November 17, workers of nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jashore region announced a six-day programme.

On November 27, jute mill workers in Rajshahi observed a token hunger strike to press home the demands. On the same day, workers of Amin Jute Mills in Chattogram also observed a token hunger strike.
