A journalist, who sustained bullet injuries during a factional clash of ruling Awami League in Noakhali's Companiganj, has died, said his brother Fakhruddin.

The deceased is Borhan Uddin, a district correspondent of Bartabazar.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Fakhruddin said, "Borhan breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 10:45pm Saturday."

Borhan suffered bullet wounds on neck and head while he was collecting video footage of a clash between supporters of local mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal on Friday afternoon.

Initially he was rushed to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital in critical condition. Later he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the same night for better treatment. He was kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital on Saturday morning when his condition deteriorated. There he succumbed to the bullet injuries.

District Police Superintendent Alamgir Hossain said, he has heard about Borhan's death. He told this reporter that he was trying to contact the family of the victim journalist.
