Journalist hacked to death in B’baria

A journalist was hacked to death in front of a local park in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday (9 January).

The deceased, Ashikul Islam, 27, was the district correspondent of Daily Porzobekkhon and staff reporter of a local online newspaper 'Brahmanbaria Sangbad'.

Witnesses said Ashik was going towards Kumarshil intersection on an autorickshaw after attending a meeting of a voluntary organisation around 5:30pm. 

At that time, a man named Rayhan along with his accomplices hacked Ashik indiscriminately in front of Faruki Park and fled the scene.

He was rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Sohrab Al Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station said, "The motive behind the murder is not yet clear. Though, efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the killing."
