Jagannath University on Thursday asked all of its departments to halt new enrollment for the evening courses until further order.

Vice-chancellor of Jagannath University Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The Jagannath University authority made the decision, a day after the University Grants Commission said all the public universities should stop conducting evening courses as they harm the image and characteristics of the universities.

Registrar of Jagannath University Md Wahiduzzaman said students who have already been admitted in the evening courses would carry on their academic activities, but no new students will be enrolled.
