The Islamic Democratic Party on Sunday demanded that 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural projects to be named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

They made the demand at a press conference at the National Press Club.

The construction of 560 model mosques is ongoing under an initiative of the Islamic Foundation with a grant from the Saudi Arabian government.

The party also voiced for a permanent ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a written statement, Islamic Democratic Party Chairman MA Awal said that out of 560 model mosques, construction of at least 170 installations has already been completed.

He noted that the construction of mosques and cultural centers in the country will further motivate the devout people of Bangladesh and encourage them to practice their religion.

At the press conference, the party announced various programs throughout the year on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence.

Islamic Democratic Party General Secretary Nurul Islam Khan, Presidium members Kazi Masud Ahmed, Omar Farooq were present among others.
