Sustainable coastal dam project submitted for approval
The project is expected to be approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in the next 15 days
State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk has said a project to set up sustainable dams in coastal areas has been sent to the Ministry of Planning.
"A survey of coastal areas – including Satkhira and Khulna – has been carried out and a project in this regard has been sent to the planning ministry. It is expected to be approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in the next 15 days," said the state minister while inspecting the repair work of damaged dams in Satkhira and Khulna on Friday.
He expects dam construction will start before the monsoon.
"I saw the plight of the people of this area after cyclone Amphan. So far, I have visited the areas three times. Tk75 crore has been given to the army for emergency work at 12 points and it has completed most of the work," he added.
The state minister visited Datinakhali and Lebubunia in Shyamnagar; Satkhira, Golkhali, Bedkashi, Harinkhola in Koyra in Khulna district; plus Chakla and Kurikaunia in Pratapnagar of Asashuni upazila.
Khulna 6 Member of Parliament Md Akhtaruzzaman Babu, Shyamnagar Upazila Chairman Ataul Haque Dolan, Koyra Upazila Chairman Md Shafiqul, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Rokon Ud Daula, Deputy Director General of the Bangladesh Water Development Board Md Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry Nur Alam, Chief Engineer Md Rafiqullah, and Executive Engineer Abul Khair were present, among others.
