‘The existing law will control all illegal establishments in the city’

A seven-member working committee has been formed to identify obstacles to the implementation of revised Detailed Area Plan (DAP) for the capital city's development until 2035.

"There are a few problems like accommodation issues created by unplanned infrastructure and mismanagement. We will eliminate those and build a beautiful and livable city," said Md Tajul Islam, minister of local government and rural development.

Tajul, who is also the convener of DAP Review Committee, was exchanging views at a meeting with representatives of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Land Developers Association on the implementation of DAP at Hotel Intercontinental on Sunday.

The minister said the committee comprising the housing and public works secretary and representatives from the two real estate organisations will scrutinise all aspects.

Replying to a query, Tajul said actions would be taken against all illegal establishments in the city under the existing law.

But thousands of workers are involved in the real estate sector, and their livelihoods will have to be taken into consideration while taking any new steps, he added.
