Construction of tourism facilities, hotels begins at Sabrang Tourism Park

12 companies have received approval to invest a total $245 million in the park

   

Three companies have started constructing tourism facilities and hotels in Sabrang Tourism Park, which is in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar – the southernmost part of Bangladesh. 

The foundation stones of these tourism facilities were laid at the park on Saturday, said a press release of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA).

Pawan Chowdhury, executive chairman of BEZA was present at the foundation stone laying ceremony.

He said the country will be able to build a tourism-friendly and healthy environment at the initiative of BEZA. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at a meeting on the master plan of this tourism park in 2020, gave the instruction to build the necessary facilities, rapidly, to attract tourists. 

In this context, BEZA today is going to build this tourism park on this beautiful beach, the BEZA chairman added.

Twelve companies, including a Netherlands-based and Singapore-based company, have already received approvals to invest a total $245 million in this tourism park, which is expected to generate 10,000 jobs. 

The three companies that started construction of tourism facilities at the park are Great Outdoor and Adventure Limited, Green Orchard Hotel and Resorts Limited and Sunset Bay Limited.

Sohelur Rahman, managing director of Great Outdoor and Adventure Ltd, said they want to build modern tourist-friendly facilities – including snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, beach volleyball, beach bowling facilities – on three acres of land with an investment of about $6 million dollars. 

Addressing the programme, Ishtiaq Ahmed Patwari, MD of Green Orchard Hotels and Resorts Ltd and Sunset Bay Ltd, applauded BEZA's initiative for the plan to enrich tourism.

Green Orchard Hotels and Resorts Ltd plans to build a 210-room three-star hotel, recreation center and convention center on 1.5 acres of land with an investment of $7.5 million.

Sunset Bay Limited plans on building tourist-friendly facilities, including a 370-room five-star hotel, on one acre of land, with an investment of $19.2 million.

This tourism park is located in Sabrang Union in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar with an area of ​​1,047 acres of land. An open stage, reserve forest, recreation center, local product display stall, children's park, underwater world, botanical garden, and aquarium have been proposed for the park in order to attract more tourists.

Once the proposed master plan is implemented, 39,000 tourists are expected to be able to enjoy the tourism park every day and about 6,000 people will be directly employed by it.
