Import of undeclared goods to evade Tk42 lakh in duty

JSK Enterprise has brought in digital banner sheets after declaring to import 18,782 kilograms of plywood in an attempt to evade Tk42 lakh in duty, a revenue officer at the Audit Investigation and Research (AIR) unit of the Chattogram Custom House said.
The Chattogram Custom House on Sunday filed a case against JSK Enterprise in this connection.
The China-based Langfang Tongshuang Trading Co Ltd was the exporter of the shipment.
On December 10, AIR conducted a physical examination of the shipment based on suspicion that there might be undeclared goods in the shipment.
According to sources at the Chattogram customs, the import duty of the declared goods was 37% of their invoice price while the rate is 89.27% on the item that has been imported.
KM Rakibul Islam, proprietor of United Service Corporation, the clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent of the shipment said that he was unaware of this incident.
Commissioner of Chattogram customs M Fakhrul Alam told The Business Standard they will take necessary measures against JSK Enterprise as per customs laws.
