A 70-year-old imam has breathed his last while prostrating during Eid-ul-Fitr prayer in Sirajganj.

On Monday morning, the imam, Ayub Ali, died while prostrating in the first congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr prayer at Madhyapara Mosque in Shelachapri of the upazila.

The imam was fine going into the first prostration. However, when he did not get up for a while during the second one, devotees left the prayer to check on him and found the imam had already passed away.

Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shah Md Shamsuzzoha confirmed the matter, saying he had no symptoms of Covid-19 however.

After the initial namaz-e-janaza, his second village janaza was held at Chinanari of Santhia upazila and the burial was completed at the graveyard there.

The late Imam Ayub Ali was the son of late Deraj Ali Munshi of Rupbati Union in Shahjadpur upazila and a resident of Shelachapari village.
