Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary has urged the criminal investigators to follow a scientific approach to solve cases.

"We have to emphasise a scientific method of investigation. Otherwise the investigation will be fruitless," he said on Saturday.

The perpetrators of sensational murder cases must be identified by examining all sorts of cyber, forensic and DNA evidence, the police boss added.

Javed Patwary was speaking at an inaugural programme of the "100 Aid to Good Investigation Course" of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police at Razarbagh Police Lines.

He said the CID is a prominent investigating organisation of the country and it feels proud of numerous success stories and a glorious past.

The police chief urged the CID officials to work with professionalism and uphold the organisation's reputation.

Earlier, the inspector general of police laid the foundation of a 10-storied building for the CID.
