HC asked Matiur to surrender before the Cyber Crimes Tribunal after his bail term expires

The High court (HC) has granted 4 months anticipatory bail to Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, the editor-in-chief of Manabzamin.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order on Wednesday after he submitted a bail petition through his lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua.

The HC asked him to surrender before the Cyber Crimes Tribunal after his bail term expires.

Ruling party lawmaker from Magura-1, Saifuzzaman Shikhor, has filed a case accusing Matiur and 32 others of allegedly publishing defamatory news on Shamima Nur Papiya, an expelled leader of the ruling party.

The case was filed at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on March 9.
