Hefazat demands withdrawal of case over Allama Shafi's death, warns of movement

The leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, on Monday, warned they will stage a movement if the case against 36 people – including joint secretary general Mamunul Haque – over the death of its former chief Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi is not withdrawn.
They issued a joint statement, signed by Hefazat-e-Islam Assistant Secretary General Maulana Fazlul Karim Qasemi, claiming Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi died of natural causes.
A total of 22 leaders, including the chief advisor Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari and Amir Junaid Babunagari, signed the statement.
The leaders said the death of Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi was natural and his eldest son, on behalf of their family, stated this to national and international media.
Additionally, all the teachers of Hathazari Madrasa gave statements in this connection, after his death, and the reports and death certificates of two hospitals prove it was a natural death, they added.
They continued that selfish people are spreading propaganda over the death of Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi and the formation of the National Executive Committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.
