Police have arrested Lokman Hossain Amini, a follower and activist of Hefazat-e-Islam, on charges of posting provocative status on Facebook and rioting in Siddhirganj area.

Rupganj Police Station OC (Acting) Jasim Uddin confirmed the arrest and said, "Amini had been posting status on Facebook in support of Mamunul Haque, joint secretary general of Hefazat."

Amini, Khatib of a local Mosque, was arrested at 10 pm on Saturday from Maturjabad area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj, reports Jugantor.

The khatib has been handed over to the district police. He was sent to court after a case was filed with Siddhirganj police station on Sunday morning.

Police confirmed that Amini had participated in the massive vandalism in Siddhirganj area during the strike called by Hefazat on 28 March.
