FMCH curtain scam: Two former project directors suspended

Two government officials, who are former directors of Faridpur Medical College Hospital and College (FMCH) construction project, have been permanently suspended in connection with curtain purchase scam.

The suspended employees are - Professor Dr A S M Jahangir Chowdhury and Dr Ganapati Biswas, a press release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday. 

On November 27, 2019,  ACC Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury filed a case against six people in connection with Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) curtain purchase scam.

They were accused of trying to embezzle Tk 10 crore in collusion with each other in the pretext of procuring medical equipment including curtains for the hospital.

According to the ACC case statement, the project directors were accused of gross corruption in the procurement of medical machinery and other materials, including purchasing each piece of curtain for Tk37.50 lakh.

On August 20, last year, the High Court ordered the ACC to look into the irregularities and corruption in purchase for the Intensive Care Unit of FMCH. It gave six months to complete the investigation.
