Ramadan Tips: Fasting and post-surgery concern

- For those who are otherwise healthy with their wound healed, fasting after surgery is not a health hazard.
- One can safely undertake fasting within a month of gallbladder surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery including cancer surgery.
- In Ramada, fasting beneficially decreases pro-inflammatory cytokine release, thereby decreasing inflammation; it also decreases tumor necrosis factor hence decreasing cancer spread.
- Gastrointestinal surgery may take longer to heal when it would be wise to consult your surgeon before fasting.
