State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque on Sunday said an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) testing service will be launched across the country in 2020.

"The testing service will be launched aiming to diagnose anyone that might be affected immediately, and to prevent spread from human to human," he said while addressing a programme marking 'World AIDS  Day', held at the Krishibid Institute, as chief guest.

According the world-renowned and respected Mayo Clinic's definition, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by HIV.

Secretary to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry Asadul Islam, HIV Focal person, additional secretary to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry Rina Parvin, country representative of UNFPA Dr Ase Torkelesson and Bangladesh representative of World Health Organisation Dr Mia Sapal addressed the programme.
