‘Drives against irregularities will continue in hospitals’
Deadline to renew licenses of private hospitals has been set for August 23
Ongoing drives against irregularities and corruption in hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres across the country will continue, said Abdul Mannan, secretary for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting with BMA leaders, as well as private hospital and clinic owners in the ministry's meeting room on Sunday.
"The task force members will conduct an operation as soon as allegations of irregularities or corruption are received. The drives will not stop even for a minute," said the health secretary.

For this, assigning a telephone number for public complaints would be beneficial. The complaints against irregularities and corruption received through that telephone number would be responded to immediately, he added.
Abdul Mannan also said that the deadline for renewing the license applications of private hospitals has been set for August 23.
If any hospital fails to renew their license within the deadline, necessary disciplinary action will be taken against it, he added.
Breastfeeding rate 65 percent
Breastfeeding rates in the country have increased by 25 percent compared to other countries in the world. The breastfeeding rate in the world is now 40 percent, while the rate of breastfeeding in Bangladesh is now 65 percent.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque made the remarks while addressing a press conference on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Day at the Health Ministry's conference room on Sunday.
The health minister said the country's health sector is working tirelessly to motivate people to breastfeed in Bangladesh – even during the current Covid-19 and flooding disasters.
He added that due to the timely role of the country's health sector in this novel coronavirus pandemic, the country has one of the lowest Covid-19 mortality rates in the world.
