1,661 dengue patients hospitalised in 7 days of August

Among the 204 dengue patients identified in 24 hours till Saturday morning, only 10 were from outside Dhaka

As much as 1,661 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and other parts of the country in the first week of August till Saturday morning as the situation has been worsening for the last few days.

In 24 hours ending at 8:00 am Saturday, 204 patients got infected with dengue in the country, taking the total number of infections to 4,319 this year.

Among the dengue patients identified in 24 hours till Saturday morning, only 10 were from outside Dhaka, said a media statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the latest day's information, 997 patients with dengue fever were taking treatment in different hospitals across the country.

In Dhaka, the highest number of dengue patients – 189 – was at the Mitford Hospital, followed by 48 patients at the Dhaka Shishu Hospital, the DGHS data shows.

Apparently, the children are increasingly getting infected with dengue as all the patients undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Shishu Hospital were children.

According to the DGHS press release, the country recorded the highest number of dengue infections in July this year as 2,286 patients received treatment at different hospitals across the country that month.

In month-wise count, 32 people were infected with dengue in January, nine in February, 13 in March, three in April and 43 in May.

However, dengue cases surged sharply in June as 272 patients got infected with the disease in that month.
