Covid-19 affected former vice-president of Awami League Sitakunda Municipality unit died at the General Hospital in Chattogram on Saturday night due to lack of oxygen supply.

Deceased Mohammad Shah Alam, 48, was the youngest son of Ismail Mistry from Sitakunda Municipal Sadar.

Shah Alam's nephew Ashraf Shovon said his uncle was admitted to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital in Faujdarhat last Thursday with respiratory problems. He was tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday.

Later he was taken to Mother and Child Care Hospital in Agrabad on Saturday as his breathing problem was getting worse.

When his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the General Hospital in Anderkilla in the afternoon.

"Uncle's breathing problem was getting worse. We requested the doctors to give him oxygen. After being taken to the General Hospital, my uncle was subjected to extreme neglect. No doctor saw him. He died due to the lack of oxygen," said Shovon.
