Half-day strike protesting AL leader killing being observed in Bandarban
Due to the strike, no long-distance vehicles could leave the terminals while vehicles from other areas could not enter the town either.
A half-day strike is being observed at Roangchhari upazila in Bandarban district in protest of the killing of Mong Pru Thoai, president of Tarasa union unit Awami League.
The strike enforced by the Roangchhari upazila unit of Awami League began at 6:00am in the morning and will continue till 12:00pm.
Due to the strike, no long-distance vehicles could leave the terminals while vehicles from other areas could not enter the town either.
Besides, establishments including ticket counters, shops have been kept shut.
Upazila AL President Chuhamong Marma said that people were observing the strike in a peaceful manner.
Further programmes will be announced at a protest rally after the strike, he added.
Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rowangchhari Police Station said that no unpleasant incidents were reported during the strike.
Some miscreants opened fire on Mong while he was going to the district town by a motorbike at Monday noon.
He died on the spot.
