Awami League (AL) lawmaker and freedom fighter Habibur Rahman Mollah was laid to eternal rest with state honour at the Matuail central graveyard in the city after Asr prayers following his Namaz-e-Janaza at Matuail Eidgah field.

People from all strata, including political leaders and activists, joined the Namaz-e-Janaza of Mollah.

AL leaders paid tributes to the veteran freedom fighter on behalf of Prime Minister and party President Sheikh Hasina by placing a wreath on the coffin of Mollah while other associate bodies of the ruling AL also paid homage to him.

Habibur Rahman Mollah, Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-5 constituency, breathed his last at the age of 78 at a city hospital around 9.50am today.

Earlier, Mollah was admitted to Square Hospital in the capital on April 27. Later, in the afternoon on the same day, he was put on life support at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his physical condition had deteriorated.

He is survived by wife, three sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and admirers.

Born on 27 January in 1942, the veteran Awami League politician was elected MP for three times in 2008, 2014 and 2018 from Dhaka-4 and Dhaka-5 constituencies respectively.
