Govt will provide houses to river erosion victims: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government will build houses for the people who will lose their lands in river erosion.

"We have allocated Tk100 crore in the fiscal year 2019-20 for building houses for the river erosion victims," said the PM while addressing International Day for Disaster Reduction 2019 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.

The slogan of this year's International Day for Disaster Reduction is "Build to Last".

The PM said the government is implementing several effective measures to reduce risks of different natural calamities such as introducing fire service unit in every upazila, building roads to communicate with cyclone centres.

The PM inaugurated 100 multipurpose cyclone shelters in 14 districts and 11,604 disaster resilient houses in 64 districts. 

The government has taken steps to protect physically challenged people during disaster time, she added.
