Six trade bodies on Saturday demanded the reduction of import duty on raw materials for printing and packaging industries.
They want the duty - applied on the import of coated paper, graphic paper, cardboard (uncoated), duplex board, art card, folding boxboard and self-adhesive paper - to be revised down to 5 percent, from the existing 25 percent.
The businesses made the call at a press conference held at the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) auditorium in Paltan.
The trade bodies are Bangladesh Paper Importers Association, Bangladesh Paper Merchants Association, Textbook Printing and Marketing Association, Chattogram Paper and Cellophane Business Community, Metropolitan Press Owners Association and Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samity (BMSS).
BMSS President Shahid Serneabat, President of Bangladesh Papers Importers Association Mohammad Safiqul Islam Varsha and President of Bangladesh Paper Merchants Association Fazlur Rahman Parbat spoke at the press conference.
