Govt shows zero tolerance against drug abuse: Hasan

Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is showing zero-tolerance against the drug abuse.

During the ongoing drive against drug abuse, no mercy is being shown to anyone irrespective of political affiliation and this stance will be continued, he said.

The minister was addressing as the chief guest an anti-drug and anti-dowry grand rally in the city's Jamiatul Falah Maidan this evening.

Hasan underscored the need for making the society free from the curse of drug abuse at any cost.

Recalling his father's advice to refrain from smoking when he was 8-year-old, the minister said since then he never touched any tobacco.

He said his friends and colleagues insisted him many times on smoking cigarette but he never breached his commitment made to his father.

Appreciating the anti-dowry campaign, the minister said things have changed nowadays as youths are very conscious against the dowry.

Hasan urged the people to raise their voice against dowry from their respective positions to free the society from this curse.

He called upon all to make their marks to keep up prevailing communal harmony in the country and work for turning Bangladesh into a developed nation by 2041.

Maolana Abul Kashem Nuri, chairman of Anjumane Razavia Nuria Bangladesh, presided over the function while Maolana Saifuddin Al Hasani al Miazbhandari inaugurated it.

Professor NKM Akbar Hossain, Alhaj Mohammad Nurul Hoq and Maolana Jahidul Hasan Rubaid, among others, addressed the function.
