The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed five more deaths from dengue, which takes the official death toll caused by the mosquito-borne disease to 57.
“The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research has confirmed five more deaths from dengue. With this, the death toll has risen to 57,” Dr Ayesha Akhtar, the assistant director of Emergency Service and Control Room of the Health Department, told The Business Standard on Saturday.
The DGHS informed, the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has so far reviewed 96 deaths and confirmed that 57 died of dengue. The IEDCR has so far received information about 185 deaths.
In Bangladesh, dengue infection was first identified in 2000 when at least 93 people died and 5,551 were hospitalised.
