Govt confirms 68 deaths from dengue

Eight more recent deaths from dengue took the official death toll higher

The Directorate General of Health Services has confirmed that a total of 68 people have died due to dengue fever across the country till Monday. 

Confirming the matter, the Assistant Director of Emergency Service and Control Room of the Health Department Dr Ayesha Akhtar said: "Eight more deaths from dengue took the official death toll caused by the mosquito-borne disease to 68."

The directorate revealed that the institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research has reviewed 116 deaths and among them 68 were confirmed to be caused by dengue.

A total of 527 dengue infected people were admitted to different hospitals across the country till September 15, according to the health directorate data. Of them, 156 patients were in Dhaka and 371 in the rest of the country.

In Bangladesh, the dengue infection was first identified in 2000, when at least 93 people died and 5,551 were hospitalized.
