Government working to promote riverine tourism: State Minister

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said the development of riverine tourism has been emphasised in the national tourism development policy

The government is working for the development of riverine tourism in the country. Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, two entities under the civil aviation and tourism ministry, have already undertaken different programmes in this regard.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali came up with the remarks while addressing the inaugural function of a cruise programme at Shimulia Ghat in Munshiganj on Thursday.

Dhaka Cruise and Logistics arranged the programme named 'Padma Cruise.' Under the facility, there will be two different cruise packages – Day Cruise from 10am to 1pm and Afternoon Cruise from 2pm to 5pm.

State Minister Mahbub said the development of riverine tourism has been emphasised in the national tourism development policy, in addition to the tourism master plan that is being formulated for the integrated development of the country's tourism industry.

"Riverine tourism will play an important role in the development of a sustainable tourism industry," he said.

Shamima Jafrin, wife of the State Minister, Hajera Khatun, deputy director of Bangladesh Tourism Board, Md Humayun Kabir, Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Md Asaduzzaman, additional superintendent of police, among others, were present on the occasion with Mohiuddin Helal, chairman of Dhaka Cruise and Logistics, in the chair.
