Government prepared to tackle cyclone Amphan: State Minister
Currently 12,078 cyclone shelters have been prepped to face Amphan when it hits
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said that the government is prepared to face cyclone Amphan.
The minister made the statement at an online press briefing on the government's preparations for dealing with cyclone Amphan from the minister's conference room in Dhaka on Monday.
Currently 12,078 cyclone shelters have been prepped to face Amphan when it hits.
Thirty-one thousand tonnes of rice, 50 lakh Taka cash, 31 lakh Taka for baby food, 28 lakh Taka for cattle feed and 42,000 packets of dry food have been sent to 19 coastal districts of the nation to help tackle the cyclone.
Dr Md Enamur Rahman said, "Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display danger signal no 7. The coastal districts along with the islands near them will be under Danger Signal no 7 as well."
"We have already started shifting the residents of Satkhira district to the cyclone shelters. The effort to shift people of other districts to cyclone shelters will start tomorrow morning."
"Necessary dry food and cattle feed have been provided to ensure that there is no shortage of food during the stay at the shelter." Added Enamur.
The minister added that more allocation will be given as per the demand of the district administrations.
The district administrations have been instructed to keep alternate power distribution measures on standby if the main power supply goes out during the cyclone.
